Add text to your video in your browser
Most video is watched muted the first time, so the opening words on screen decide whether anyone keeps watching. Type your caption, place it, and see it composited onto the real frames immediately.
How to add text online
Open your video
Drop in a clip and switch to the Text tool.
Type your caption
Press Enter for a second line. The preview updates as you type.
Style it
Pick from clean, bold meme, serif, typewriter or handwritten fonts, then set colour, size and position.
Keep it readable
Leave the dark box on for busy footage, or switch it off for a drop-shadow look with an outline on the bold meme font.
Placing text where platforms will not cover it
TikTok, Reels and Shorts overlay their own buttons and captions along the bottom and right of the screen. Putting your text at the top, or in the middle, keeps it clear of the interface. The nine position options cover the usual safe spots.
Readable over any footage
White text on bright footage disappears. The dark box behind the text guarantees contrast whatever is underneath; turning it off swaps in a soft shadow, and the bold meme font adds a black outline, which is the classic look for captions over busy video.
Your video never leaves your device
Most online video editors upload your file to their servers before you can touch it. This one works differently: every edit and every export happens inside your browser, on your own hardware.
Captions frequently go on footage that has not been published yet — a draft, an announcement, something under embargo. Adding words to it should not mean handing the whole clip to a third party first.
The caption is drawn onto the frames by your own browser, and the finished file is written to your disk. The unpublished clip stays unpublished.
Add text — questions and answers
Will the text stay readable over bright footage?
That is what the dark box and drop shadow are for. Plain white text disappears over a bright sky or a pale wall; a semi-transparent box behind the words, or a shadow under them, keeps the caption legible over anything.
Is the text burned into the video?
Yes. The words become part of the picture, so they appear everywhere the clip plays, including in feeds that autoplay without sound. There is no separate subtitle file to attach or lose.
Which fonts can I use?
A set of fonts already on your device, so nothing has to be downloaded and the preview is exactly what exports. Custom font files cannot be loaded.
Can I change the size and position?
Yes. Size, colour and position are all adjustable, and the preview updates as you change them, so you can keep the words clear of a face or a logo in the corner.
Does adding text work on a phone?
Yes, though typing a long caption and placing it precisely is easier on a keyboard and a bigger screen.
Is my video uploaded to add text?
No. The caption is drawn onto the frames by your own browser and the file never leaves your device.
Can I make text appear only for part of the clip?
The caption shows for the whole clip. To caption one section, trim to that section and export it separately.
Can I add more than one caption?
One text block at a time, and it can be several lines. Press Enter inside the text box to add a line.
