Crop video online in your browser
A crop decides what the viewer actually looks at. Cut away a distracting edge, drop the black bars a phone added, or pull in tight on a face so it still reads on a small screen. Drag the box, lock it to a shape if you want, and the preview shows the real result frame by frame.
How to crop video online
Open your video
Drop in a file or pick one from your device. The full frame appears with a crop box over it.
Drag the crop box
Move the box, or pull any corner or edge. The rule-of-thirds guides help you place your subject.
Lock a shape (optional)
Choose 1:1, 9:16, 16:9, 4:5 or 4:3 and the box keeps that proportion while you resize it.
Export
The exported file is exactly the cropped area, at the pixel size shown in the panel.
Crop to the shape a platform wants
Instagram posts sit best at 1:1 or 4:5. Reels, TikTok and Shorts want 9:16. YouTube wants 16:9. Pick the shape first and the crop box holds that proportion, so you cannot accidentally export something that gets letterboxed later.
Removing black bars
Videos exported from some phones and screen recorders carry black bars baked into the picture. Drag the crop edges just inside them and they are gone for good, rather than hidden behind a player.
Your video never leaves your device
Most online video editors upload your file to their servers before you can touch it. This one works differently: every edit and every export happens inside your browser, on your own hardware.
Cropping often means removing something from the edge of the frame — a bystander, a street sign, a screen with something on it. Sending the uncropped original to somebody else’s server first is the opposite of what you were trying to do.
Nothing here is transmitted. Your browser decodes the frames, draws the cropped area, and writes the result to your device.
Crop video — questions and answers
Will cropping make the video blurry?
No. Cropping keeps the original pixels and simply shows fewer of them, so nothing is stretched or invented. It only looks soft if you crop very tightly into a low-resolution clip and then view the result large.
Can I crop to an exact shape like 1:1?
The crop box drags freely to any rectangle. If you need an exact platform shape, crop for framing here and then use the Resize tool, which has fixed 9:16, 16:9, 1:1 and 4:5 targets.
Which files can I crop?
Any video the browser can play, which covers MP4 (H.264), WebM and most phone MOV files. The crop is applied when you export, and you choose MP4 or WebM at that point.
Does cropping work on a phone?
Yes. Drag the corners of the crop box with one finger and the preview updates live. Large 4K clips use more memory on a phone than on a computer, so a very long 4K crop may be happier on a desktop.
Is my video uploaded to crop it?
No. The crop is applied by your browser to a file that stays on your device the whole time.
Can I crop and resize at the same time?
Yes. Crop first to choose the part of the picture you want, then open the Resize tool to place that crop inside a 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9 frame. Both are applied in a single export.
Does cropping make the video smaller?
The frame gets smaller in pixels, which usually makes the file smaller too. If you need a specific output size, set it under Resolution in the Resize tool.
