Blur part of a video in your browser

Drag a box over a face, a number plate, a screen or an address, set how strong the blur is, and export. The original never leaves your device — which matters most for exactly this kind of edit.

Before a clip goes public it often needs one detail hidden: a passer-by’s face, a car’s number plate, a name badge, a screen with private information on it. Blurring that one area keeps the rest of the shot intact.

How to blur video online

  1. Open your video

Drop in the clip that needs something hidden.

  2. Turn on the blur box

Open the Blur tool and tick Blur an area. A box appears on the preview.

  3. Cover the detail

Drag the box over what you want hidden and pull its corners to fit. Raise the strength until it cannot be read.

  4. Export

The blur is drawn into every frame of the video you download.

Best for things that stay still

The box stays where you put it for the whole clip, which is ideal for a screen, a sign, a number plate on a parked car or anyone sitting in one place. For something that moves across the frame, make the box large enough to cover its whole path, or trim the clip into parts and blur each one.

How strong is strong enough

Text and faces become unreadable at different strengths depending on how large they are in the frame. Raise the strength until you cannot make out the detail on the preview at full size, then add a little more: what looks hidden on a small screen can sometimes be read when someone zooms in.

Your video never leaves your device

Most online video editors upload your file to their servers before you can touch it. This one works differently: every edit and every export happens inside your browser, on your own hardware.

Blurring exists to protect someone’s privacy, so uploading the unblurred footage to a server first rather defeats the purpose.

Here the original stays on your device the whole time. Your browser blurs every frame and saves the result locally; the unblurred version is never transmitted.

Blur video — questions and answers

Does the blur follow a moving face?

No. The box stays in one place for the whole clip, so it suits things that stay still. For a subject that moves, make the box cover its whole path, or trim the clip into parts.

Can the blur be undone from the exported file?

No. The blurred pixels replace the originals in every frame, so the detail underneath is not in the file at all.

Can I blur the whole video?

Yes. The Blur slider in the Filters tool softens the entire picture; the Blur tool is for one area.

Can I blur more than one area?

One box per export at the moment. To hide two things, export with the first blurred, then open that file and blur the second.

Is my video uploaded to blur it?

No. It is processed entirely in your browser. The unblurred original never leaves your device.

Is blurring enough to anonymise someone?

It hides a face or text, but voices, clothes and surroundings can still identify a person. Consider muting or replacing the sound as well when anonymity matters.
