Compress video for Discord in your browser
The 10 MB target is already selected. Open your clip, trim it to the moment that matters, and export a file Discord will accept without paying for Nitro.
Discord turns away uploads above the free limit, which catches out almost every gameplay clip and screen recording. This page opens the compressor with a 10 MB target already set, so the only thing left to decide is how much of the clip to keep.
How to compress for discord online
Open your clip
Drop in the recording from OBS, ShadowPlay, Game Bar, your phone or anywhere else.
Trim to the moment
Drag the handles to keep just the highlight. Shorter clips come out sharper at the same size.
Keep the 10 MB target
It is selected already. Pick 8 MB for extra headroom, or type a larger number if your server allows bigger uploads.
Export and drop it into Discord
Download the MP4 and drag it into the chat. It plays inline without anyone needing to download it.
Why 10 MB, and when to pick less
Ten megabytes is Discord’s upload limit for free accounts at the time of writing. The compressor aims a little under your target to leave room for the file structure, but if an upload is ever refused, 8 MB gives comfortable headroom. If Discord changes its limit, or your server is boosted, type the new number into the size box.
Getting a sharp clip at 10 MB
Ten megabytes is about 80 megabits, so a 30-second clip has under 3 megabits per second to spend. That is plenty for 720p at 30 fps and tight for 1080p at 60. If the estimate shows the frame shrinking, trim a few more seconds or set Max FPS to 30; a fast-moving game clip benefits most.
Your video never leaves your device
Most online video editors upload your file to their servers before you can touch it. This one works differently: every edit and every export happens inside your browser, on your own hardware.
Game clips and screen recordings often catch more than you meant to share: a notification, a username, a private message in the corner. They deserve the same care as any other file.
The clip is compressed on your own device and goes nowhere until you post it yourself.
Compress for Discord — questions and answers
What is Discord’s upload limit?
For free accounts it is 10 MB at the time of writing. Nitro and boosted servers allow larger files; if yours does, type that limit into the size box instead.
How long can a 10 MB clip be?
At a clean 720p, roughly 30 to 40 seconds. Longer clips fit too, but the picture gets softer the longer they run, so trim to the part that matters.
Does it work with gameplay recordings?
Yes. Recordings from OBS, NVIDIA ShadowPlay and Xbox Game Bar are MP4 files that open straight away. For fast 60 fps footage, setting Max FPS to 30 gives a sharper picture at 10 MB.
Will it play inside Discord?
Yes. The export is a standard MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound, which Discord embeds and plays in the chat.
Is my clip uploaded anywhere?
No. It is compressed by your own browser. The only upload is the one you make to Discord yourself.
Can I turn the clip into a GIF instead?
Yes. Open the Convert tool and choose GIF. GIFs are larger per second than MP4, so keep them to a few seconds.
